WHY SHOULD YOU STRENGTH TRAIN?

Our personal training studio in Moorgate is not like other gyms – we don’t do cardio, we don’t bark orders at you like you are in the army and we don’t force you to eat chicken and broccoli for the rest of your life.

Strength training is the cornerstone of what we do because we believe that getting stronger gives you the power to transform your life, not just your body.

WHY ARE MORE PEOPLE GIVING UP CARDIO IN FAVOUR OF STRENGTH TRAINING?

IT’S TIME EFFICIENT

As we age, we have to work harder to stay in good shape. With cardio, that means going from a 5k to half marathon to a marathon, and that’s a big commitment! With strength training, you can keep to a short 50-minute workout, and simply increase the weight on the bar.

YOU CAN BURN FAT WHEN YOU’RE NOT EVEN EXERCISING

Your metabolism is linked to how much muscle you have. The more muscle you build, the faster your metabolism will run. Strength training can help you build muscle where cardio can’t.

HOW DOES STRENGTH TRAINING IMPROVE YOUR FLEXIBILITY?

YOU USE FULL RANGE OF MOTION

Many people worry that strength training makes them stiffer and less flexible, but actually, it has the opposite effect. in our flexibility classes in London, you use your body through ranges of motion it is not used to, meaning your flexibility improves the more you do the movements.

IT’S MORE PRACTICAL THAN YOGA

Yoga improves flexibility, but it doesn’t actually help in ‘real-life’ situations. You need flexibility so that you can bend over and pick a box off the ground or move a sofa – but you also need to be strong and stable enough to carry it safely. Yoga can’t help with that – our fascial stretch therapy in London can.

IT HELPS PREVENT INJURY

The last time you hurt yourself did your therapist tell you to strengthen the core, your glutes or rotator cuff? Strength training is the only system that builds tissue – not only the muscle but the ligaments, tendons and bone density you need to be free of pain and injury.

WHY ARE HIGH FLIERS USING STRENGTH TRAINING TO GET TO THE TOP?

IT’S BETTER THAN ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Exercise releases endorphins, the hormones that make us feel better. The higher your heart rate, the better the endorphin release. If you hate cardio, strength training is a great way to get the same feeling. Studies show that strength training is the most effective antidepressant.

REDUCES STRESS

Whenever we are stressed the body jettisons hormones, glucose and lipids (fat) into the bloodstream. If we allow this to go unchecked they can cause further issues such as heart disease and diabetes. Strength training uses the muscles to hoover up these molecules and focus your mind on the task in hand, giving you headspace and better health.

IMPROVES BLOOD FLOW TO THE BRAIN

Strength training can quite literally make you smarter. When you strength train, you train your muscles – like your heart, to work more efficiently. This delivers more oxygen and nutrients to your nervous system, which can actually increase grey matter! You’ll stay sharper, on top of your game and never fall behind your younger peers in the office.
