The Christmas music in the office and twinkly lights in London tell us Christmas is just around the corner. For those of you who have beaten the crowds, done your Christmas shopping and placed your neatly wrapped presents under the tree already….well done to you! For the rest of us, it’s either time to brave the bustling high streets or hide away in the warmth of our own homes to trawl the internet looking for the perfect gifts.

Now I know from experience that trying to buy presents for the fitness enthusiasts of your household is not always the easiest thing to do; buy boxes of chocolates and they sit there unopened for months on end and the only clothing which is ever required is that which is made from more lycra than you ever thought possible! So, if the thought of present-buying brings about a cold sweat, don’t worry, we’ve done the hard work for you and found some of the best runner-shaped gifts out there.

1. The ‘They don’t realise how much they need it until they have one’ present

GRID Trigger Point Foam Roller (£40)

Pounding the streets of London, as enjoyable as it might be, creates havoc on the body! Muscles become very tight, often sore, and we get huge amounts of muscle tissue laid down as scar tisue. If this is not dealt with, it can lead to poor stride patterns and ultimately injury.

The GRID, is the best self-massage tool out there, and a little painful though it may be, it is simply fantastic at releasing those tight muscles. This should be a runners best friend, so why not make their day and pop one in the Christmas sack?!  It also comes in a mini size (pictured), so it can be easily popped in their gym bag.

For details on how to use one read my blog ‘How To Recover From Injury

2. The Music Lovers present: Pioneer SE-D10E-N Fully Enclosed In Ear Clip STEEZ Headphones – Black/Gold (£30)

Finally, a pair of headphones that don’t slip when you run! Ok, they may be a little complex at first, but once you have them figured them out, they stay in your ear no matter how much you sweat! Sound quality isn’t bad either.

3. The staple ‘gadget’ present :Garmin Forerunner 110 Heart Rate Monitor (£140)

Most people I know who love to run, like tracking their performance. With this running gadget you can measure away till your heart’s content! Although one of the simpler monitors out there, it’s really easy to use whilst on the move, with the big buttons and easy to navigate display. It doesn’t feel like a huge brick on your arm, nor does the GPS take half an hour to load up unlike some previous models. It’s clean, simple and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Lets face it, unless you’re an olympic athlete, you don’t need anything more. Even better, you can download your data using a special piece of software and track your progress online.

4. The ‘jokey stocking filler’ present: I Run Like A Girl Thermos Flask (£15) www.cafepress.co.uk

THE only present for the sub 3 hour marathon runner. As long as they have a sense of humour! This gift speaks for itself, enough said!

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas for the running nuts in your life!

Look out in January for our blogs with loads of tips and training information in preparation for marathon season! We will also be re-launching our marathon training camps so keep reading….
